Back from the dead...

Hello hello!

How long has it been? I don't wanna think about it. I wonder if anyone noticed... maybe for like a day haha. But anyway, we left off at me being upset about my job situation. So I have some news...

I GOT A NEW JOB! :D

The place is great. But to avoid from having any stalker (gosh i'm pararnoid) all I'm gonna say is that it serves great italian food. Not to mention my hours from my last job have tripled. And my weekly salary almost seven times greater! Life is good for the moment.

What I've learned from this, is that I can try to be as healthy as possible, but if you're constantly stressed from work/ school/ a relationship/ family, etc. it doesn't mean a thing. With all of the excess stress taken off, I'm a happier person :)

So yep... New job. I've started the p90x workouts and have gotten in pretty good shape so far. And oh yeah, I'm kinda getting bored of bangs and am rocking a new hairstyle
So now that life is starting to flow a little better, I'm busier for sure with now working 3 days a week and being a fulltime student. So that explains the absence. But I'm back and hoping to be back for good!

Pregunta.... aka question :P

What is the best and worst job you've ever had? How have they effected the rest of your persona?

Work Woe's...

Phew. Working hard this week! And time=money right? The more I work the more I make? Not necessarily... This week I broke an average of $19 in tips for all of my dinner shifts. That's over 6 hours of work for $19 in tips. When I usually can make anywhere from $50-80. Bad week right? Hopefully just one bad week.

However, this week when I looked at the schedule I saw the name of the owners wife written on who had just had a baby and used to be a server there as well. Consequently, all of the rest of the server shifts were cut in half. As for me, I only work Friday next week. When I generally work, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday.

After this crushing blow, I walked through the door of my home last night, slammed the door and said "SCREW THIS! I'M BECOMING A HOOTERS GIRL!" Did you know that at a normal restaurant tips are an average of 15-20%, when at Hooters the average is 50% and can be as high as 100%. That's right. The Breasturant Business is booming even in the bad economy. Places like Hooter, Bone Daddy's, Twin Peaks, Tilted Kilt and the worst inuendo yet, Big Racks, aren't affected by the economy. This sounds like a great idea right? But looking a little closer. There are a lot of issues here....

Why I couldn't be a Hooters Girl:

  • You can't tie your hair up. Did you know that Hooters girls can be fired on the spot for having their hair tied up, or wearing bobby pins? My hair is rather long, and it gets rather hot. Not good for working conditions.
  • Late hours. The latest I work at my restaurant now is 11pm. And sometimes that's too much for me!
  • I would punch somebody in the face. Whenever older men get suggestive with me, I have no fear in putting them in their place.
  • My dad and boyfriend would punch somebody in the face. What kind of father want's their daughter to work at a place like that? And what boyfriend wants older men oogling their girlfriend?
  • Their uniform only comes in one size. XS.
  • I really do think it's degrading. Growing up I always thought it was ridiculous for women to just throw on a skimpy outfit to get more money. I mean, they're not taking their clothes off right? But it's still a little risque. I thought this opinion may change as I get older. But no... not really.
  • I don't look like this-
I look like this-

I'm not ugly. But I a'int no hooters girl. And degrading myself for more cash isn't the answer. Some other job that let's me wear full length pants will come along :)

Until then I'm off to do homework! I'll have a more relevant post later. And hopefully a new job by then too...

So question..

Could you ever see yourself working at a breasturant?

What did you do during college to earn cash?

Gluten free fad?

Garsh I've been so busy recently. My spare time is either used for blogging or the gym. So guess which one I choose? :P But not gym today!

Anyway, this morning I woke up with a coonskin cap on my head ... AKA my kitten. And started the day off with 2 egg whites and a bowl of oats...

Afterwards I headed to the student organzation meeting that I'm a member of for all of the other nutrition majors at my university. I made pumpkin muffins for munching for the rest of my peers :)

They got lots of great comments!

And I heard some very interesting information. Like I would make more money moving back to New York as an RD. Hmmm. Something to think about.

Also there was a lot of buzz about GF diets. One member passed out a handout about how bad gluten is for you and that people need to just cut it out of their diet. I bit my tounge out of respect, but this is so untrue!

And I'll tell you why Gluten Free diets are NOT for everybody.

  • Gluten Free is not a fad. An intolerance to gluten, or celiac disease is a medical condition where your body cannot digest gluten, and your small intensines villi are attacked. The gluen free diet is a treatment. NOT a fad.
  • Gluten Free Diets are not like Atkins. I've heard many people tell me that gluten free diets are just like atkins because they cut out carbs. Bread is not the only food group that's a carb. All fruits are carbs too. And I assure you I eat fruit.
  • It takes a lot of convience out of life. When most people are in a rush for breakfest, they can eat a breakfest wrap, toast, or a bagel. You can forget about that if you're gluten free. No sandwiches, no toast, no wraps. All your meals must be preplanned.
  • It generally makes you gain weight. Since I acutally am intolerant, cutting out gluten helped me lose 10 lbs since I was so bloated. But gluten free breads and other gf products contain a lot of fat. So if you look at a box that says "Gluten Free" and buy it just because it sounds healthy, it has about twice as much fat.
  • Elimination is NEVER the Answer.... unless you medically have to. I actually tried a gluten free diet before I ever had to medically do it. And after some inital sucess, it ended in about a week or two of just binging on gluten because I had been derpriving myself so much. I had also tried to cut out all fat before. And to my surprise, it caused high choloesteral. Cutting out fat will cause your body to start producing its own. So elimintation all together will get you no where. If you're gonna eliminate, make it french fries. But still... EVERYTHING IN MODERATION!
So right now I am enjoying a very blurry lunch of shrimp with a mustard sauce and steamed broccoli.

Then it's off to work until about 11pm, and then school at 7am. Blehhh. Have a good one!!
